Pyle Astro 7 Inch Tablet Review

The Pyle Astro 7 inch tablet is was released in 2013 with many great features for a lower priced tablet. Although it has received many positive reviews, it now costs only $106 on Amazon! At the time of this writing, you get $107 in savings when you buy this tablet.

This tablet is not to be confused with the Astro 9 Inch tablet, a slightly bukier version with the same specs. I prefer the 7 inch display because it is much easier to carry around, especially kids.

Our Pyle Astro 7 Inch Tablet Review is a summary of the most important aspects of a tablet. Read the following for our full specs review for the Astro 7 Tablet.

Astro 7 Inch Tablet Features

The Astro 7’s processor is a Dual Core Allwinner 1.2 GHz with 512MB of RAM. This is will run decently fast, and most reviewers have found that they it runs smoothly and quickly. One reviewer has said that it runs faster than their Kindle Fire!

The display resolution is also decent at 800×480 dpi. With a 7 inch display, you should not have any issues with the smoothness of the graphics. However, if you are specifically looking for a higher resolution and crisper graphics at below $100, I would suggest the Camelio Family Tablet.

With the Astro, you may find that when looking at it from a different angle, the display is not quite as bright as the Camelio…

The Astro comes with 4GB of storage, but with no option to expand to 32GB with a microSD card. Many find that for most purposes, 4GB is sufficient. But if you want to entertain to possibility of many apps from Google Play, the Camelio is expandable to 32GB of storage.

The battery on this model is advertised as lasting only 3 hours. But reviewers have reported that their kids are able to get a full day’s usage out of it without needing to recharge the Lithium battery.

This tablet weighs a hefty 2 pounds, which greatly outweighs most other 7 inch models of this price range. Granted, there are others that weigh as much as 3.5 pounds, but these are usually the 10 inch versions. If you are looking for an extra light tablet for under $100, you may want to see my review on the Afunta 7 Inch A23 tablet. It weighs only 0.6 pounds!

The Astro 7 Inch tablet runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system. This is one of the slightly older versions of Android, but it is compatible with most apps from the Google Play store. This tablet comes preloaded with educational apps for kids.

A neat feature of the Astro interface is that parents can set the age of their kids so that the tablet software will choose which apps will be the most appropriate. Of course, you are not limited to these apps as you can download any number of educational apps for your kids. In fact, many adults have purchased an Astro for their own use since it is cheaper than the iPad.

The Verdict

The Astro 7 Inch Tablet is a viable alternative to higher cost kids tablets. It only costs around $100, and comes preloaded with educational games for kids as well as giving direct access to Google Play. In terms of hardware, there isn’t much to complain about.

Granted, there are other affordable tablets for the same price, if not cheaper that have better graphics, a longer battery life, and are a bit lighter. For example, the Camelio Family Tablet has better hardware specs than the Astro, but is even slightly less expensive.
